OU’s Heupel, Norvell now co-offensive coordinators

NORMAN, OKLA. (AP) - Oklahoma assistants Josh Heupel and Jay Norvell are now co-offensive coordinators for the Sooners.

Coach Bob Stoops announced the promotions Monday. Stoops says Heupel, a 32-year-old former Oklahoma quarterback, will call the plays for the Sooners, starting with their Fiesta Bowl matchup with Connecticut.

Stoops says Heupel “has a good feel for the game and rhythm” that Oklahoma has established. He says promoting Norvell and Heupel will help Oklahoma maintain its current style.

Kevin Wilson had been Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator before taking the head coaching job at Indiana. Stoops says Wilson will stay with the Sooners through the bowl game to work with tight ends and fullbacks.

Norvell had been Oklahoma’s receivers coach and assistant coordinator, while Heupel has coached quarterbacks.
