GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - This New Year’s Eve, for the first time he can remember, Ted Prior won’t be gyrating on a stage somewhere, warning someone not to step on his blue suede shoes.

Cancer that has spread throughout his body and taken root in his brain is forcing him to miss a scheduled concert in New Jersey. It’s the first time in a 50-year career spanning nearly 10,000 performances that south Jersey’s answer to The King has had to miss a show.

He never made it big outside the region, but in the Atlantic City suburbs, he’s a legend.

The 67-year-old Elvis tribute performer from Galloway hopes the cancer will subside enough that he can resume performing next spring.
