‘General welfare’ query required

Bryan Bjornson’s commentary made me ask the question, What is Congress doing to promote America’s general welfare? I see much of what they’ve done in the past 20 years as a detriment to my general welfare. Ever since I became politically aware, it has seemed to me that my congressmen and senators think it is their primary goal to spend my money, and governing for the general welfare of America is a distant second.

Many Americans seem to be seeing their own general welfare eroding with every year that passes. It may only take one individual or one state arguing before the Supreme Court that the general welfare is not being served to make the argument stick. The only question to be asked at that point is, Are there more statist or more constitutionalist justices? Whether one is liberal or conservative, the answer to that question might scare us most of all.
