ANALYSIS/OPINION:

I read with interest Jonathan Slevin’s Wednesday Commentary column, “Time to cut the size of government.” We all agree, but how?

I suggest that we need to draw up a clear ideological and philosophical framework and start from there. Let’s think our way forward and out of our current predicament; let’s rediscover the roots of American philosophy but move forward to solve our significant political and economic problems. As Albert Einstein said, “The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.”

As a starting point, I suggest reading “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, Version 4.0,” by Gordon Anderson. It was the best book I read in 2009. Happy new year, America - let’s get it done.
