Striker Raul Gonzalez announces Real Madrid exit

MADRID (AP) - Striker Raul Gonzalez has announced his exit from Real Madrid after 15 seasons with the Spanish soccer club.

Madrid’s all-time leading scorer made the announcement Monday from the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in front of fans and flanked by new Madrid coach Jose Mourinho and club president Florentino Perez.

Raul says it is “a very hard day” as “football has been my life and Real Madrid my home and together we have lived unique moments.”

Raul made his Madrid debut in 1994 and spent his entire career at the club _ a span that includes three Champions League and six Spanish league titles.

Perez says this “is not so much a goodbye as a see you again _ this will always be your home.”

The 33-year-old Raul is reportedly set to join German club Schalke.
