WASHINGTON | Right wing Eric Fehr has signed a $4.4 million, two-year contract to stay with the Washington Capitals.

The 24-year-old Fehr set career highs with 21 goals and 18 assists last season for the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Capitals, despite averaging a little more than 12 minutes of ice time. He also scored three goals in the playoffs. Washington lost to Montreal in the first round.

Fehr was a first-round draft choice in 2003, and has 36 goals and 37 assists in 178 games with the Capitals.

Thursday’s deal is the third in three days for Washington, which also re-signed defenseman Jeff Schultz and forward Boyd Gordon this week.

Says Fehr: “We were definitely hoping to kind of have everybody back.”
