Texan hit by baseball at game dies

SAN ANGELO, Texas (AP) — A San Angelo woman attending a minor league baseball game died after being struck in the head by a line drive.

A memorial service was scheduled Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo for 39-year-old Wendy Lee Wismer Whitehead.

She was critically injured June 11 at a San Angelo Colts game. Justice of the Peace Eddie Howard says Mrs. Whitehead died the following day at a hospital. The preliminary cause of death was traumatic brain injury.

The San Angelo Standard-Times reported Dr. William “Bo” Whitehead was with his wife at the game and tended to her until paramedics arrived.

The Colts are in the independent United League. League co-founder John Bryant issued a statement offering condolences to the family at a game Saturday.
