VDOT takes steps to make holiday travel easier

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Temporary lane closures will be lifted across Virginia to make it easier for Thanksgiving travelers to reach their destinations.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said Friday that it also will provide 24-hour traffic information and other planning tools to help travelers avoid congestion.

Temporary lane closures for construction or maintenance will be lifted from noon on Nov. 24 to noon on Nov. 29.

Heavy congestion is expected on Interstate 95 between Richmond and Interstates 495/395 Springfield Interchange, Interstate 66 in northern Virginia, the Interstates 81/77 interchange near Wytheville, I-81 near Lexington to south of Roanoke and Interstates 64/95 in the Richmond area.
