DETROIT (AP) - Kicker Dave Rayner is joining the Detroit Lions following Jason Hanson's injury.
Rayner played college football at Michigan State. He signed with the Lions on Tuesday, two days after Hanson hurt his right knee in a 23-20 overtime loss to the New York Jets.
The Lions didn't officially announce the move, but Michigan State spokesman John Lewandowski says the former Spartan signed Tuesday afternoon.
Rayner was drafted in 2005 by Indianapolis. He's played for five NFL teams, not including the Lions. He was released by Cincinnati in September.
The Lions also have released cornerback Jonathan Wade, whose agent, Peter Schaffer, confirms that move.
