Stackhouse nearing deal with Miami Heat

- Associated Press - Saturday, October 23, 2010

MIAMI (AP) - Jerry Stackhouse was nearing a deal with the Miami Heat on Saturday, one day after the NBA championship hopefuls learned that they'll be without injured swingman Mike Miller until possibly January.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the sides are talking, though no deal is signed.

The Heat would become Stackhouse's sixth NBA club. Stackhouse, who turns 36 next month, averaged 8.5 points in 42 games as a reserve for the Milwaukee Bucks last season.

Stackhouse said during the summer that he wanted a chance to join LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami, believing it would give him the best chance at winning his first NBA title. Wade and James said they would welcome Stackhouse if the Heat made a deal.
