The article “GOP blocks moves on gays, immigration” (Page 1, Sept. 22) reveals a division in the country along party lines. This results from the party members having different gods that set the standard for what is right or wrong. Most Republicans find God’s words in the Bible; most of the Democrats look to the government, and especially the Supreme Court, for guidance.

Opposition to homosexuality comes from Leviticus 20:13, where God calls it a sin; our government says there is nothing wrong with homosexuality. In Jeremiah 1:5, God says that life begins at conception; the government says life begins after a baby is completely out of the womb. Exodus 21:22-24 sets the punishment of “life for life, eye for eye” for anyone killing or injuring an unborn baby; the government says abortion is legal.

The government may have some authority and power in this life, but it has absolutely none in the next. God rules there and decides where each of us will spend eternity based on our obedience to his commands in the Bible.
