CLEVELAND (AP) - Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller is resting comfortably at the Cleveland Clinic after getting a pacemaker.
A family friend told The Associated Press that the 91-year-old Feller underwent surgery to get the pacemaker on Monday. The friend spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because no public statements had been made about Feller’s latest health issues.
The baseball legend was diagnosed with leukemia last month and has been undergoing chemotherapy.
The friend said Feller became nauseous on Saturday and went to the hospital. While getting treatment, he fainted and his heart briefly stopped.
As he recovers, Feller has been watching Cleveland’s games on TV.
Feller won 266 career games in 18 seasons _ all with Cleveland _ is the third oldest living Hall of Fame member. He was enshrined in Cooperstown in 1962.
Feller is hopeful he will be released later this week and can return home.
The friend said Feller joked that he had the pacemaker put in “to make me stronger for spring training.”
