J&J APOLOGY: The chief executive of Johnson & Johnson plans to tell Congress his company “let the public down” with a string of quality problems that forced it to recall millions of medications in the past year.

SECRET RECALL: In prepared testimony, J&J CEO William Weldon also suggests the company made a mistake last summer when it conducted a “phantom recall,” hiring a contractor to quietly buy up packets of a defective Motrin.

HOUSEHOLD BRAND: J&J has seen its household brand marred in the last year by a string of recalls. House lawmakers are investigating problems with its medicines, ranging from contamination with bacteria to tiny metal shards.
