The biggest hurdle that remains for the star running back is getting hit hard for the first time. It might not happen until the season opener.
Jones-Drew played most of last season with torn meniscus in his right knee, saying there were days when he would wake up and not be able to walk. He was inactive the final two games, both losses. Those were the first games he’d missed because of injury in his career. Jones-Drew finished the year with 1,324 yards rushing, 317 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. He had arthroscopic knee surgery in January and has been working his way back since.
Selected 11th overall in the 2009 draft out of Penn State, Maybin has proved to be a bust. Drafted for his pass-rushing potential, Maybin failed to register a sack in 27 career games, none of them as a starter.
The move didn’t come as a surprise after coach Chan Gailey in January described Maybin’s status as “tenuous.”
Browns’ Ward misses practice with tooth problem
BEREA, Ohio — Cleveland Browns starting safety T.J. Ward missed practice to visit the dentist because of a “crazy” tooth problem.
Ward showed up at the team’s training facility Monday with a swollen face. Coach Pat Shurmur did not know how long Ward, who led the team with 105 tackles as a rookie last season, would be out.
In other developments, running back Montario Hardesty took part in drills after being sidelined most of the past two weeks in his comeback from knee surgery. Tight end Ben Watson (hamstring) and linebacker Scott Fujita (thigh) were kept out for precautionary reasons.View Entire Story
