LETTER TO THE EDITOR: No solid GOP challenger to Obama

- The Washington Times - Monday, August 15, 2011

Notwithstanding that President Obama does not deserve a second term, his chances of re-election look pretty good.

This prognostication may seem counterintuitive given his failures domestically and globally, but it comes into focus when one considers the huge campaign war chest he will have and, more importantly, the absence of a truly credible Republican challenger - one who can appeal to the broad middle road of the electorate while galvanizing the GOP base.

I have seen no Republican prospect as of yet who can accomplish both. Hope springs eternal, of course, but that goes for both sides in the 2012 presidential extravaganza to come.
