Kardashians cash in on weekend wedding

In today’s world, you can rake in millions of dollars from your own wedding ceremony, especially if you’re a Kardashian.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the weekend nuptials of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” reality star Kim Kardashian and NBA star Kris Humphries generated $100,000 in ads, a $1.5 million photo sale and millions of dollars more in TV promotions.

The ceremony, which E! will air in a two-part special this fall, is expected to earn the network $13 million in ad revenue. Yahoo News notes that some of the profits are “sure to find [their] way into the Kardashian pocketbook.”

Let’s not forget about the wedding photos, which reportedly were sold to People magazine for $1.5 million. The pictures have not been released, but Yahoo anticipates a first glance early this week. Miss Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner, reportedly was behind the magazine deal.

According to Yahoo, designer Lehr & Black is thought to have crafted Miss Kardashian’s invitations free of charge, costing the business a minimum of $10,000. Las Vegas nightclub Tao provided the bride $50,000 to host her bachelorette party at the popular party spot. Hansen’s Cakes gave Mr. Humphries and Miss Kardashian a free cake. (The company’s cakes usually price around $6,000.) Miss Kardashian reportedly even got her $20,000-plus custom Vera Wang gown on the house.

Miss Kardashian married her fiance of three months Saturday in Montecito, Calif., in front of several hundred guests. Stepfather Bruce Jenner walked Miss Kardashian down the aisle, and sisters Kourtney and Khloe served as maids of honor. Guests reportedly were instructed to wear black or white to the extravagant affair.

Thatcher’s friend upset by her portrayal in biopic

Friends of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher reportedly are disgusted with the portrayal of the conservative icon in the upcoming biopic “The Iron Lady,” starring Meryl Streep.

The Daily Mail reports that friends of Mrs. Thatcher were invited to a private screening and were appalled by the portrayal, calling it “insulting” and “insufferable.” One said, “I didn’t come here to see a film about granny going mad.”

Mrs. Thatcher apparently hallucinates constantly in the film, imagining her late husband is still alive. The audience at the screening was most upset that the film takes such liberties with her health. Mrs. Thatcher has suffered a series of strokes and has been unable to make public appearances, even skipping the unveiling of a Ronald Reagan statue in London. Reagan and Mrs. Thatcher were political allies and friends.

“Any portrayal of Margaret Thatcher that does not show her as one of the titans of British politics in the 20th century will be a travesty,” said Conor Burns, a Conservative member of Parliament.

The film reportedly also contains inaccuracies about Mrs. Thatcher’s marriage, showing an at-first-affectionate relationship with her husband, Sir Denis, devolving into one of resentment. Sir Denis reportedly was a supportive husband who told his wife: “I will back you all the way, love.” When she became prime minister, he told reporters he was “incredibly proud.” In the film, Sir Denis berates Mrs. Thatcher for putting “ambition before [him] and the children” and in another scene tells her: “Old girl, you have always been alone.”

The filmmakers defended the portrayal. Written by Abi Morgan and directed by Phyllida Lloyd, the film is billed as a story about “power and the price that is paid for power.” The film’s production company, Pathe, said the film treats Mrs. Thatcher’s health “with sensitivity” and acknowledged that the film is fiction, despite calling it “fair and accurate.”

“The Iron Lady,” which also stars Jim Broadbent as Sir Denis, is slated to open Dec. 16.

Urban Outfitters sued over ‘spread-eagle’ photo

Sixteen-year-old model Hailey Clauson is suing hipster apparel chain Urban Outfitters for selling a “salacious” T-shirt that captured the Californian with her legs in a “spread-eagle position.”

Hailey’s parents are going after the clothing company as well as photographer Jason Lee Parry for $28 million for using racy images from the teen’s photo shoot on shirts and other products.

“She is posed in a blatantly salacious manner with her legs spread, without a bra, revealing portions of her breasts,” the lawsuit states. The lawsuit further claims that the photo depicts Hailey in “a spread-eagle position, making her crotch area the focal point of the image.”

Hailey, who has modeled for fashion big names Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Oscar de la Renta, can be seen on the Urban Outfitters shirt seated on a motorcycle in tight-fitting shorts with her legs open. Hailey claims the snapshot was taken when she was 15 and that the picture has ruined her reputation. The lawsuit also suggests that the picture could run afoul of child pornography laws.

According to E!, the lawsuit describes Mr. Parry as a professional photographer whose “unconventional body of work” includes “nudity, semi-nudity, sexually suggestive situations involving only women and what appear to be underage girls, many with bloody noses as if incurred as a result of repeated drug use and/or physical violence.”

The lawsuit alleges that Mr. Parry agreed to not release the photo after Hailey’s former agency, Ford Models, voiced opposition. The photo of Hailey also has popped up in the German magazine Qvest.

The lawsuit is not Hailey’s first encounter with scandal. Earlier this year, when she was 15, Hailey strolled across the catwalk at three big shows during New York Fashion Week despite a prohibition on models younger than 16 in the high-profile event.

Hailey began modeling at age 14 and has appeared in catalogs for popular clothing store Forever 21. Despite participating in the grown-up profession, however, Hailey told New York magazine that she still sleeps with her “baby blanket.”
