ANALYSIS/OPINION:

On Sept. 11, 2001, in the wake of the terror attacks, Congress stood outside the Capitol building and sang “God Bless America,” and humbly acknowledged our reliance on the Creator without regard for political correctness.

Sadly, New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s decision to eliminate prayer at this year’s Sept. 11 memorial is just another example of how we only seem to call on God out of desperation these days (“9/11 memorial without prayer,” Commentary, Monday).

I wonder if the Lord heard any prayers from the good mayor this weekend as Hurricane Irene came roaring through town.
