Maryland LB Alex Twine arrested Friday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Police say a Maryland linebacker has been charged with disorderly conduct after an officer spotted him ranting and punching cars.

University of Maryland police spokesman Capt. Marc Limansky says an officer came across 18-year-old Alex Twine early Friday behaving erratically, yelling and punching cars at a shopping center just off campus.

The officer told Twine to stop, but he fled. Limansky says the officer chased Twine and arrested him. He says there were no reports of damage to cars.

Twine, a freshman linebacker from Gaithersburg, was charged with disorderly conduct and failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order and released. A trial is set for Jan. 30.

The team spokesman says the matter will be handled internally in accordance with the student-athlete code of conduct.
