Metro temporarily suspended service Tuesday on the transit agency’s blue and orange lines due to a track obstruction, and several trains had to be unloaded.

Service was restored at about 2:30 p.m.

Officials say the obstruction occurred Tuesday morning at the L'Enfant Plaza station, which affecting service between the Metro Center and Federal Center stations.

No injuries were reported.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel says a train part fell and struck the third rail, causing sparks and smoke. The electrified rails in both directions had to be deactivated.
