Montgomery County police on Thursday identified the victim in a fatal crash in Bethesda that involved a Metrobus and four other vehicles.

Nkonou Ayaovi Edorh, 49, of the 14200 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, was killed in the crash.

Police said Mr. Edorh was driving a Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck southbound on Rockville Pike near Cedar Lane at about 4:20 p.m. when he crossed the median into the northbound lanes and collided with the Metrobus.

The bus hit a tree and stopped on the side of the road. The bus driver, identified as Lennitta L. Bryant, 41, of the 3300 block of Weeping Willow Court in Silver Spring, was hospitalized with serious injuries. At least 10 people were injured.

It remains unclear why Mr. Edorh’s vehicle crossed the median, police said.

The accident resulted in a major emergency response with multiple ambulances and firefighters climbing in the twilight through open windows of the bus. The road, a heavily trafficked commuter route, was closed until shortly before midnight, police said.
