LOS ANGELES (AP) - Early arrivals to the Oscars sent fans into a frenzy. Fans sitting in bleachers off the red carpet Sunday at the Kodak Theatre screamed and hooted when Melissa Leo, nominated for supporting actress for “The Fighter,” strutted along the carpet in a lace cream gown worn over a reflective gold fabric.

Jennifer Lawrence, the breakout star of “Winter’s Bone,” got their attention in red.

Hailee Steinfeld, 14, the surprising young co-star of “True Grit,” wore baby pink tulle. Her demure pose and the tea-length dress fit her age but her five-inch heels belied her ambitions for the best-supporting actress trophy.

Also arriving early: Mila Kunis, who co-stars with Natalie Portman in “The Black Swan.” Kunis wore plunging lavender.
