NEW YORK (AP) - The current revival of “The Importance of Being Earnest” is proving its importance on Broadway.

The Roundabout Theatre Company says its well-reviewed Oscar Wilde comedy led by Brian Bedford has been extended for 17-weeks and will now close on July 3 at the American Airlines Theatre on 42nd Street.

Bedford has been winning raves as both director and for starring as Lady Bracknell.

The extension of the show, which was originally slated to end its run on March 6, means a new musical that was supposed to replace it in the spring _ “The People in the Picture” _ will switch venues and open at the Roundabout’s Studio 54 stage.

“The People in the Picture” stars Donna Murphy and will begin previews as scheduled on April 1.
