Daily Caller: Group blasts Lady Gaga for wheelchair entrance
Group blasts Lady Gaga for wheelchair entrance
Lady Gaga's bizarre antics don't seem so funny to the Life Rolls On Foundation. The advocacy group for people with disabilities recently condemned Lady Gaga for rolling out onstage in a wheelchair during one of her concerts.
"Since this isn't the first time she has used a wheelchair in her performances, I invite her to learn more about the 5.6 million Americans who live with paralysis," Life Rolls On Foundation founder Jesse Billauer told RadarOnline.com. "They, like me, unfortunately, don't use a wheelchair for shock value."
The five-time Grammy Award winner Lady Gaga is known for doing unusual things during appearances. The pop sensation showed up to this year's Grammy's ceremony enclosed in an egg, wore a condom-inspired suit to a February "Good Morning America" appearance and put on a fake pregnant belly for a May "Saturday Night Live" performance.
Lady Gaga raised the ire of many Catholics this year with her song "Judas," told from Mary Magdalene's perspective.
"People have real talent, and then there is Lady Gaga. I find Gaga to be increasingly irrelevant," Catholic League President Bill Donohue said in an April statement. "This is a stunt. ... Lady Gaga tries to continue to shock Catholics and Christians in general: She dresses as a nun. ... ;he swallows the rosary. She has now morphed into a caricature of herself."
Mr. Billauer suggested that Lady Gaga attend a Life Rolls On event to open her eyes to the reality of living as a person with a disability.
French first lady Bruni-Sarkozy confirms pregnancy rumors
French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who has been the subject of pregnancy rumors for months, has joined family members in coming forward about expecting a baby with President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Last week, the Italian-French singer-actress flaunted her pregnant stomach in a bikini shot taken in Fort de Bregancon. At the time, Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy had not confirmed nor denied whether she had a baby on the way, but in an interview with the Nice-Matin newspaper, the 43-year-old mother of one addressed the topic.
Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy told the French publication that her condition is "coming happiness, unexpected and unhoped for."
When asked about the sex of her unborn child, the elegant songbird said, "That, I don't even know myself. There are certain things which one should keep secret."
As for the discretion on her pregnancy, Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy said, as translated by the Huffington Post, "First of all, to protect myself, to not put my private life on display. It's a source of great happiness for me, but after all, it's banal and the people [of France] have plenty of problems, so it would be inappropriate to talk about it. We are already so media-exposed."
The former model stoked pregnancy rumors when she would shield her belly every time photographers approached with cameras. In a May interview with Le Parisien, Mrs. Bruni-Sarkozy remained mum on mom talk.
"If I may, I will not answer all these familial questions. I have a little boy, too, and I do not answer questions about him," she said.
"Why don't I answer? I'll tell you. Nearly 180 percent of the time my husband is occupied by his country. He speaks only about that, he only does that, he is obsessed with it. ... I'm mum to protect something and to protect all of the work he does."
But Bruni-Sarkozy family members weren't hush-hush on the baby discussion nearly as long as she was.
Pal Sarkozy, the president's father, told Bild in May, "I'm glad to be having a grandchild. ... The two do not want to know the gender in advance, but I'm sure it will be a girl and as beautiful as Carla."
Bristol Palin 'not sure' if Levi ever read a book
"Not Afraid of Life" author Bristol Palin isn't so sure whether fellow memoirist and ex-fiance Levi Johnston had ever cracked open a book before penning his own.
In a Thursday interview with Jay Leno, Miss Palin mocked Mr. Johnston, whose tell-all memoir, "Deer in the Headlights: My Life in Sarah Palin's Crosshairs," is slated for a September release.
Miss Palin, who has a son with Mr. Johnston, wrote disparagingly of her cheating "gnat" in her newly released book. When Mr. Leno asked Miss Palin whether she was concerned about how Mr. Johnston would describe her in his own memoir, the "Dancing With the Stars" finalist said no.
"No, because he's going to have to find like a screenwriter or something to come up with more obnoxious lies, so I'm not worried about it," she told the television show host.
"Has he read a book previously?" Mr. Leno asked.
"I'm not sure," Miss Palin said, smiling.
Miss Palin's memoir, which hit bookstores last month, shares details on how she drunkenly lost her virginity to Mr. Johnston as a teen. In a June sit-down chat with "Good Morning America," Miss Palin explained that "it felt like" Mr. Johnston stole her purity.
"I'm not accusing Levi of date rape or rape at all," Bristol said of her ex-beau. "But I am just looking back with the adult eyes I have now and just thinking that was a foolish decision. I should have never been underage drinking and I should have never gotten myself into a situation like that."
Miss Palin and Mr. Johnston have had a bumpy relationship since the 2008 election campaign, when mother Sarah Palin ran alongside John McCain on the Republican presidential ticket. "Not Afraid of Life" asserts that Mr. Johnston claimed to have possibly impregnated another woman and told Miss Palin about it on the same day Us Weekly published a cover story about their 2010 engagement.
"The magazine was released on a Wednesday, and that Wednesday when it went nationwide, Levi comes home, comes to my condo and tells me that a girl might have his baby," Miss Palin said. "That was definitely like a punch to the stomach. ... It's like, 'OK, I just betrayed my family for you,' " Miss Palin explained, adding that her own family didn't know about the engagement until the celebrity news magazine story went on sale.
