Prince George’s County police said Friday they have arrested a Landover teen in connection with a May 31 killing on an elementary school basketball court.

Savon Lee Blanchard, 17, of the of the 1800 block of Village Green Drive in Landover, is being charged with second-degree murder for the killing of Alusine Kargbo, 23, in New Carrollton.

Karbgo, of the 9300 block of Wellington Street in New Carrollton, was among the group of people on the basketball courts at Carrollton Elementary School when a person approached the group at about 8:50 p.m. and began firing into the crowd. Only Kargbo was struck, county police said.

Someone else had already taken Kargbo to a nearby hospital when New Carrollton and Prince George’s police officers arrived at the school, at 8300 Quintana Street. He died a few hours later.

Police obtained a warrant for Blanchard’s arrest on June 3. He turned himself in to authorities at about 4:40 p.m. Thursday and is being held without bond.
