ZURICH (AP) - FIFA’s newest vice president says soccer’s governing body must abandon its culture of political intrigue after a series of corruption scandals.

Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan tells The Associated Press that the final four years of Sepp Blatter’s presidency are “absolutely critical” for FIFA if it is to win back the faith of disillusioned fans. Prince Ali says FIFA should “just get rid of this politics.”

He spoke after Blatter was re-elected unopposed, promising radical reforms to clean up the discredited organization.

Citing UEFA President Michel Platini as his mentor, Prince Ali wants FIFA to focus “on the game itself.” He pledges to help Qatar host a “really outstanding” 2022 World Cup.
