SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The San Antonio Spurs have taken Texas guard Cory Joseph with the 29th overall pick in the NBA draft.
The Spurs earlier traded backup guard George Hill to the Indiana Pacers for their first-round pick, forward Kawhi Leonard of San Diego State. The deal made for one of the most active Spurs drafts under coach Gregg Popovich.
San Antonio entered the offseason needing athleticism and size after a 61-win season ended with a surprising first-round loss to the youthful Memphis Grizzlies.
Joseph averaged 10.4 points and 3.6 rebounds as a freshman. The 6-foot-3 guard could be called upon to immediately help offset the loss of Hill.
The Spurs also had the 59th overall pick.
