PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pirates have placed outfielder Jose Tabata on the 15-day disabled list with a left quad strain, retroactive to June 27. Infielder Josh Harrison has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Tabata’s roster spot.
Tabata, 22, suffered the injury in the first inning of Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox in Pittsburgh, and was carted off the field.
The Pirates (39-38) are four games behind Milwaukee in the National League Central, and will open a series in Toronto on Tuesday night.
Tabata is hitting .265, with three home runs and 14 stolen bases this season.
