Resale of the week: It’s all in the details
Question of the Day
The owners of a sprawling 9,600-square-foot Colonial spared no detail when it came to designing their luxury Upper Marlboro residence.
Everything from the arched walls to the commercial-grade appliances to the custom-designed home theater and Irish-pub-style bar were all thought out with precise attention.
The house was built in 2006 on nearly 2½ acres in the picturesque Weston Plat community off of Croom Station Road. A lengthy driveway leads to 13506 Fendall Court, where the home sits far back from the street, affording it privacy and a large front yard. It is on the market for $1,200,000.
There is enough garage space for four cars thanks to two, two-car garages; one that is attached and the other connected by a courtyard-like walkway that is detached from the home.
A dramatic double-arched entry foyer only hints at what is to come as visitors enter the home. The foyer walls are painted in a rich burgundy tone while the other main-level rooms feature neutral shades of beige or cream.
Like most of the rooms throughout the home, the living room is drenched with plenty of natural sunlight. This room has walls of windows and opens into a long, sunny Florida room on the side of the home.
This Florida room has striped two-tone accent walls painted in several shades of brown and a large Palladian window. The owner keeps a piano in the room and said it is the perfect spot to practice or play for guests.
There are many places to entertain, unwind and even work on this level as there's also a main-level French room, a two-story family room and an office/library.
The French room is a cozy, parlorlike sitting room near the staircase that has windows with transoms above them. The library is a generously sized room that currently doubles as the owner's home office. It is surrounded by windows and faces the rear yard.
However, it's the family room in the rear portion of the home that appears to be the central gathering hub. This space has several focal points, including a wall filled with floor-to-ceiling windows and a curved second-story overlook.
While most of the main level has gleaming hardwood floors, the family room features plush cream carpeting. It also has a cozy gas-burning fireplace that is surrounded by convenient built-ins on both sides. The flat-screen television above the fireplace, one in the library and many more throughout the home will convey to the new owners.
The oversized dining room is large enough to accommodate the owner's long table with seating for eight or more. The room's double crown molding, arched entry and elegant chandelier make this a stately place to dine for formal dinner gatherings.
For more casual meals, the kitchen's breakfast room is perfect. This space, which has ceramic tile flooring, is defined by a tray ceiling with a trendy chandelier and is set near a wall of windows.
The kitchen also offers a space to dine at an extra-long granite breakfast bar that doubles on the opposite side as a food preparation counter complete with a sink, wine cooler and cabinet space. The owners also added top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, including a commercial grade stove.
When it's time to head upstairs, two staircases lead to the second level, a foyer staircase and a convenient rear staircase off the kitchen area. With four spacious bedrooms on the second floor and space that can be used as a guest suite on the lower level, there is no shortage of places to sleep.
The master suite has a sitting room and a gas fireplace, but it's the room-size walk-in closet with a window and the lavish bathroom that will get your attention. In addition to his-and-hers sinks, the bathroom has a separate vanity and a two-person shower with ceramic tile surround.
The remaining bedrooms all are nicely sized, especially one large enough to easily be confused with the master suite. Two of the rooms share a connecting buddy bath and the third bath on this level is accessed from the hallway.
The long second-floor hall has hardwood flooring and a dramatic arched overlook into the family room.
While the first two levels offer plenty of room to unwind and entertain, there's an amenity-rich lower level that the owners meticulously designed.
The centerpiece of the walk-out lower level is the Irish pub that the owner had built with commercial appliances and glass door cabinets above it. Other features on this level include a recreation room, a home theater with raised-floor seating and a 120-inch screen, a sports viewing room with five flat-screen televisions on one wall, an exercise room with special aerobic flooring, and a wine room with custom stone flooring.
There's also a guest area on the lower level as well as a full bathroom with a large shower.
The home also has a full-house intercom system for streaming music throughout and is a smart-wired home that allows access to features such as lighting, security features, televisions, and more, all accessible from an iPad or smartphone.
