WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. Park Police say a man has been shot by an officer at Hains Point in southwest Washington.

Police spokesman Sgt. David Schlosser says the officer was patrolling the park about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when he saw a man sitting in a car with a gun in his hand.

The officer ordered the man to drop his gun several times, but the man ignored him. Sgt. Schlosser said the officer shot the man after he got out of the car.

He says the man has been taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Hains Point has been closed while police conduct an investigation.
