There’s no mistaking that breathtaking water views are the main attraction in a six-bedroom Colonial now on the market in Fort Washington. Situated in a parklike setting, a circular driveway leads to the main entrance of this window-filled home.

Located in the Indian Queen subdivision, the house at 9913 Indian Queen Point Road is listed at $1,200,000. It sits on a little more than a half an acre, which affords it generously sized front- and backyards.

The home was built in 1976 but has been renovated several times in the past decade by owner George Lowe. The most recent renovations include a host of updated features from exterior improvements to custom interior upgrades.

A grand entry foyer with a wide hardwood staircase greets visitors at the door.

In addition to hardwood floors throughout the main level, the home also has extensive crown molding and recessed lights in many of the rooms.

The living room has wood blinds and plenty of space for casual and formal entertaining. While the front of the home enjoys nice views of the front grounds, the home’s rear - including the dining room, kitchen and family room - boasts expansive water views.

In addition to crown molding, the dining room features elegant chair-rail molding and a chandelier. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide spectacular scenery that is a great backdrop when hosting dinner parties.

The kitchen has been completely redone to include dark granite counters and fashionable custom cabinetry with built-in features. The appliances are all stainless steel and include a state-of-the-art double dishwasher, a side-by-side refrigerator, a double oven and a cook top. A tile backsplash and a large, sunny window over the sink enhance the kitchen’s appeal.

There are two options for dining. The owner added a custom center island with a granite top and there’s also a breakfast area set within a large window bay. During renovations, the owner opened the kitchen so it flows directly into the step-down family room.

With the family room and kitchen seamlessly connected, the rear portion of the home makes for great entertaining, especially combined with long walls of water views. The family room also has a cozy wood-burning fireplace.

Mr. Lowe added a service bar in the family room near the fireplace as well as built-in cabinets that conceal an entertainment center.

Directly behind the family room is an oversized screened porch with a ceiling fan. Perfect for summer gatherings, the porch is more reminiscent of an outdoor room. The owner added decorative lighting in this space, which adds to the nighttime ambiance.

To enjoy the sunshine and great outdoors even more, the back porch opens onto a deck where the railings are lined with flower pots. Mr. Lowe said the back porch is his favorite place in the home this time of year, especially watching the spectacular sunsets.

Other exterior improvements include a new 15-by-10-foot patio, a new stone walkway that leads to the pier, a landscaped fountain and an underground sprinkler system.

There are five bedrooms on the second floor and one on the lower level.

The master suite has hardwood flooring and an entertainment center with a flat-screen television that will convey. There’s also a step-up sitting area that can double as a home office. Sliding glass doors open to a balcony overlooking the water.

The master bath boasts a soaking tub, glass shower and a trendy double-bowl vanity.

The other bedrooms on this level share a renovated hall bath with a tub, tile floors and a double shower. These bedrooms are generously sized, with the largest being 18 by 21 feet.

The basement level is fully finished. The owner said it can be used as an in-law suite or rental unit, if desired, as it has a separate entrance. In addition to a bedroom, this level comes with a wall-sized built-in entertainment center, full bathroom, a bar and a fully equipped second kitchen with white cabinetry.

Mr. Lowe added that the refreshing scenery, spectacular neighbors and the 10-mile door-to-door commute from his home to Capitol Hill are among the many reasons he has enjoyed the home.
