Police investigate shooting in White Oak

SILVER SPRING | Montgomery County police say a 31-year-old man was found shot Sunday morning behind the wheel of his car in the White Oak neighborhood.

Police say they received a call at 6:03 a.m. about the sound of shots in the 11400 block of December Way.

Officers found a man in the driver’s seat of a silver 2010 Dodge Caravan parked in front of the address who appeared to have received at least one gunshot wound.

Police said witnesses reported hearing shouting or loud voices before the sound of multiple gunshots. The witnesses said that after the shots they heard a vehicle quickly leaving the area.

The victim was taken to a local hospital. He was listed in stable condition.

Man found dead in parking lot

CAPITOL HEIGHTS | Prince George’s County police say a Southwest D.C. man was found fatally shot Saturday night in Capitol Heights.

Officers responded at 8:41 p.m. Saturday to Franks Tavern in the 1700 block of Kenilworth Avenue for a report of a shooting. They found Standard Dean Sweet, 57, of the 3900 block of 1st St. Southwest, in the parking lot with a gunshot wound.

He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

6 firefighters hurt battling mansion fire

HUNTINGTOWN | A nine-bedroom, $2 million mansion on the Patuxent River was destroyed early Sunday in a blaze that left several firefighters injured.

Calvert County fire officials said six volunteer firefighters were hospitalized after battling the fire. One was in serious condition.

The five people inside the home were able to escape safely.
