HARARE, ZIMBABWE (AP) - Lawyers say a Zimbabwean court has acquitted nine actors on charges of criminal nuisance for a play that police shut down over political tensions.

The court in the eastern city of Mutare ruled that prosecutors failed to give any justifiable evidence against the actors and their driver. Their lawyer Blessing Nyamaropa said Wednesday they were arrested in January for "an unlawful public performance."

Prosecutors on Tuesday alleged the play on national healing in the aftermath of years of violence revived memories surrounding disputed, violent elections in 2008 that would fuel more and divisions and possible violence.

President Robert Mugabe has called for fresh elections this year to end a troubled two-year coalition with the former opposition.
