NY school wins visit from ‘Wimpy Kid’ author

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The reception was anything but wimpy at a Buffalo, N.Y., school for the author of the best-selling “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series.

Tapestry Charter School students leapt to their feet and screamed at the sight of author Jeff Kinney on Thursday.

The school won a visit from Kinney and a red-carpet movie premiere of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules” in a contest sponsored by 20th Century Fox and Parade magazine.

Kinney signed stacks of his books for a wound-up lunchroom crowd. He was joined Thursday by movie cast members Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron and Devon Bostick.

The popular books are told from the perspective of middle schooler Greg Heffley and convey angst over growing up through funny stories and simple sketches.
