CHICAGO (AP) - Veteran left-hander Doug Davis will start Saturday’s game for the Chicago Cubs against the San Francisco Giants, his first appearance since elbow surgery in October.
The 35-year-old Davis had an ulnar nerve transposition and surgery to repair his left elbow flexor tendon in October. He went 1-4 in eight starts for Milwaukee last season and was signed to a minor league contract after the Cubs lost starters Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner to injuries last month.
It will be Davis‘ first start since July 9 of last year.
Chicago put Wells (forearm strain) and Cashner (rotator cuff strain) on the DL in early April.
Reliever James Russell struggled in four spot starts. Casey Coleman is 1-2 with a 6.29 ERA in five starts.
