OLNEY, Md. (AP) – Police say three young adults are dead after a single-vehicle crash in Olney.

The accident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday. Montgomery County police say all three of those killed were passengers in a Toyota Corolla that ran off the side of Olney-Laytonsville Road and crashed into a tree.

The driver fled the scene on foot after the crash and was apprehended about three hours later.


All the victims were from Montgomery. Police say 18-year-old Spencer Datt of Derwood died at the scene. Two others died at hospitals: 18-year-old Haeley McGuire of Rockville and 20-year-old John Hoover of Rockville.


Charges are pending against the driver, 20-year-old Kevin Coffay of Rockville. Another passenger, 19-year-old Charles Nardella of Gaithersburg, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
