PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies have re-signed backup catcher Brian Schneider to a one-year contract, worth $800,000.

Schneider, who can earn an additional $200,000 in performance bonuses, batted .176 with two homers and nine RBIs in 41 games. The Phillies were 28-8 in games he started, including a 19-game winning streak from May 7 to Sept. 6.

The 34-year-old Schneider has spent the past two seasons backing up Carlos Ruiz. He’s a career .247 hitter with 65 homers and 380 RBIs in 12 seasons with Montreal, Washington, the New York Mets and Phillies.
