A Gaithersburg man was killed early Thursday morning when hit on his motor scooter in Rockville, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

The victim, Roberto Nassar, 30, of the unit block of South Frederick Road, was hit from behind by a 1997 Buick at about 1:25 a.m. while traveling north on Rockville Pike near Edmonston Road.

The Buick driver has been identified as Michael Charles Dalton, 22, of the 100 block of Gentry Drive in Perkasie, Pa.

Police say they saw the Buick traveling north on Rockville Pike with a scooter on its hood and stopped the vehicle before learning about the accident.

Mr. Dalton is being charged with failure to immediately stop at the scene of a fatal accident, failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of a fatal accident, and failure to report a fatal accident to police.

Police continue to investigate what caused the accident. Mr. Dalton is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center.
