NHL Preseason Capsules

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Cam Ward made 36 saves and the Carolina Hurricanes got their offense going in a 4-0 preseason victory over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night.

Zac Dalpe and Jay Harrison both scored 69 seconds apart in the first period, and Jerome Samson and Riley Nash added second-period goals as Carolina won its first NHL exhibition game this season.

Carolina scored more goals in one game than it had scored in its previous two (3), both losses.

David Aebischer had 26 saves for Winnipeg, which fell to 1-3 in preseason games.

Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 3, SO

DETROIT (AP) _ Todd Bertuzzi and Henrik Zetterberg scored shootout goals to propel Detroit past Chicago.

Valtteri Filppula had a goal and two assists and Zetterberg and Nicklas Lidstrom a goal and an assist apiece for Detroit. Ty Conklin made 21 saves.

Brandon Pirri had two goals and an assist and scored in the shootout for Chicago, and Jimmy Hayes added a goal and an assist. Alexander Salek stopped 30 shots.

Pirri's goal 9:23 into the third period tied the game at 3.

Detroit forward Jan Mursak fractured his left ankle late in the second period.

Bruins 7, Canadiens 3

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) _ Joe Corvo and Brad Marchand each scored power-play goals to lift Boston over Montreal.

Zdeno Chara and Daniel Paille had short-handed scores for the Bruins, who posted five unanswered goals after falling behind early in the first period. Gregory Campbell, Tyler Seguin and Jordan Caron also scored.

Scott Gomez, Brian Willsie and Aaron Palushaj had the Canadiens' goals.

The teams meet again Monday night in Montreal.

Blue Jackets 4, Sabres 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ Dane Byers had a goal and two assists to lead Columbus to victory.

Grant Clitsome added a goal and an assist, and Jeff Carter and Ryan Johansen also scored for the Blue Jackets. Steve Mason made 19 saves.

Tyler Myers had the Sabres goal, and Ryan Miller stopped 23 shots.

Avalanche 3, Stars 0

DENVER (AP) _ Ryan O'Reilly scored two goals, Jean Sebastian Giguere stopped 16 shots and Colorado handed Dallas its first preseason defeat.

Ryan Stoa also had a goal and Kyle Quincy had two assists for the Avalanche, who won for the first time in three preseason games.

Richard Bachman had 28 saves for Dallas, which fell to 3-1 in the preseason.

Oilers 3, Flames 0

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Devan Dubnyk made 30 saves, Linus Omark and Jordan Eberle had a goal and an assist each, and Edmonton swept a home-and-home series against Calgary.

The Oilers also beat the Flames 2-1 Saturday in Edmonton. Calgary is 1-3-0 in preseason play.

Shawn Horcoff also scored for the Oilers, who improved to 3-2-0 in exhibition action. Defenseman Taylor Fedun chipped in with a pair of assists.

Starting Calgary netminder Henrik Karlsson stopped 11 of 12 shots he faced through a period and a half. Miikka Kiprusoff played the second half of the game, making 10 saves.

Sharks 4, Canucks 3

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) _ Tommy Wingels scored his second goal of the game with 6:04 left in the second period to put San Jose ahead, and the Sharks continued their perfect preseason.

Brad Winchester, playing on a tryout contract, and Andrew Desjardins also scored, and Thomas Greiss made 26 saves for the Sharks (4-0-0). San Jose dressed most of its regulars, including their top line of Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski and Patrick Marleau, and top defensive pairing of Dan Boyle and Douglas Murray.

Cody Hodgson, Alexander Sulzer and Nolan Baumgartner scored for the Canucks (2-3-0).

Ducks 3, Kings 1

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Andrew Gordon and Patrick Maroon scored in an 11-second span in the final minute of the second period and Anaheim defeated Los Angeles.

The Ducks prevailed (2-3) despite having only a few regulars in the lineup.

The Kings (1-1-1) played with almost their complete lineup of regulars except for defensemen Jack Johnson and Rob Scuderi.

Anaheim goalie Jeff Deslauriers made 32 saves. Jonathan Quick made 15 saves for the Kings.

Gordon dug out a rebound from the corner and slipped a backhand under Quick's right pad at 19:20. Maroon scored on a wraparound at 19:31.

Kyle Palmieri gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead in the second period when he redirected Maxime Macenauer's pass from the corner at 2:45.
