I strongly disagree with large withdrawals of U.S. troops (“Anti-Americanism in Pakistan snarls U.S. war efforts,” Web, Tuesday). The most effective way to win a war is with overwhelming force, as quickly as possible and with as little loss of your own as possible.

When we went into Afghanistan, we used air power and limited ground forces. That was the time to block the enemy’s escape, trap them and destroy them.

No one hates war as much as a soldier. The only thing a soldier hates more is a war fought ineffectively. The best way to avoid war is with overwhelming air, sea and ground forces - and making certain your enemies know you will use them.
