Netflix Inc. got its start renting DVDs through the mail in the U.S. during the late 1990s and added Internet video streaming in 2007. It has been expanding globally with a streaming-only service. On Wednesday, Netflix announced its fourth international market.
The Internet video service costs $8 per month in the U.S. and is priced in the same range internationally. Netflix said it would reveal its prices for a new service in four Nordic countries later this year.
Here's a look at the expansion:
_ Sept. 22, 2010: Service in Canada begins, first outside the U.S.
_ Sept. 5, 2011. Service in Latin America begins.
_ Jan. 9, 2012: Expands to the United Kingdom and Ireland.
_ Later in 2012: Netflix will arrive in Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.
