LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Romney paid more than fair share

Here are a few inconvenient facts and some quick math resulting from the latest class-warfare ads from the Democrats and President Obama.

Democratic complaints that Mitt Romney made $20 million in 2010 and paid only 14 percent in taxes sent me to my handy calculator.

Paying 14 percent means Mr. Romney would have sent $2.8 million to the U.S. Treasury. Using the Census Bureau estimate of 2010 median income in the United States of $51,000, the average taxpayer (without deductions) paying 14 percent would owe $7,140 in taxes.

That means Mr. Romney alone paid the same amount of money in taxes as nearly 400 average taxpayers paying the same rate. Thank you, Mr. Romney.
