The trip to Ames marked the 12th time Mr. Obama had visited Iowa and the sixth time this year, as Mr. Obama is struggling to maintain a dwindling lead in a state he won in 2008. Public Policy Polling’s latest poll, released Tuesday, shows Mr. Obama with a 2-point lead over Mr. Romney, down from a 5-point lead in July and a 10-point lead in May.
