STATE COLLEGE, PA. (AP) - Penn State has designated the Sept. 22 game against Temple as its second annual “Blue Out” game to show solidarity with victims and survivors of child sexual abuse.
Fans are being encouraged to wear blue, while donations will be collected around Beaver Stadium for the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape. Students are organizing Blue Out activities.
The first such event occurred during the Nov. 12 game against Nebraska, a week after retired defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was arrested on child sexual abuse charges.
Sandusky is awaiting sentencing after being found guilty in June at his criminal trial. The NCAA has since imposed severe sanctions on Penn State for the scandal.
Student organizer Stuart Shapiro says the Blue Out is one way for the university community “to work together to cultivate change.”
