President Obama celebrated his 51st birthday with a round of golf at Andrews Air Force Base Saturday morning, according to the Associated Press. Then, he flew over to Camp David, the president’s private retreat, for more birthday festivities on a low-key weekend.
In 2009, Michelle Obama threw the president a surprise birthday party at Camp David. In 2010, the president held a basketball tournament on his birthday with professional and college ballers. In 2011, the president used his birthday as a fundraiser in Chicago, where the campaign sold birthday merchandise.
This year, his big party will be next weekend on Aug. 12 at his Chicago home, where campaign donators will be invited to spend some “downtime” with the president, The New York Times reports.
In his weekly radio address earlier today, the president eschewed the tough political rhetoric he’s been delivering on the stump recently in favor of a largely nonpartisan “atta-boy” for the U.S. Olympic team.
Next week, the president is set to return to the campaign trail with Colorado rallies and Connecticut fundraisers, according to the Associated Press.
