Crane withdraws from PGA Championship

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Ben Crane has withdrawn from the PGA Championship because of a back injury.

It’s the second straight major that Crane has missed, though this one could not be helped. He was an alternate at the British Open, chose not to fly to England because it looked unlikely he would get in, and had to give up his spot when Russ Cochran withdrew on the opening day at Royal Lytham.

Crane had to withdraw last week from the Bridgestone Invitational because of his back, which has bothered him for much of his career.

He was replaced at Kiawah Island by Chris Stroud, who has not played in a major this year.
