NEW YORK (AP) - AIDS activist Spencer Cox has died in New York City at age 44.
His brother Nick Cox said Friday he died Tuesday at a Manhattan hospital of AIDS-related causes.
Journalist and director David France says Spencer Cox can be seen in a documentary released earlier this year about the activist group Act Up called “How to Survive a Plague.” France says he remembers Cox as “fiercely intelligent” on the subject of AIDS research.
France says Cox advised experts on new approaches to attacking the virus that causes AIDS, rebuilding immune systems and designing drug trials.
A memorial will be held for Cox on Jan. 20.
