Police investigate Gaithersburg homicide

A Gaithersburg man was killed in his apartment early Monday morning, police said.

Police responded to a report of a homicide at Whetstone Drive shortly after midnight. Once on the scene, officers were directed to the apartment where they found Cesar Smith, 45, unresponsive and suffering from trauma to his body. Mr. Smith was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said Mr. Smith was in the apartment with another male when multiple suspects entered the apartment and separated them, according to the preliminary investigation. The suspects also argued with Mr. Smith and left.

The surviving male found an injured Mr. Smith inside the apartment and called police.
