Montgomery, Redskins agree to contract extension

- The Washington Times - Sunday, February 26, 2012

Center Will Montgomery and the Washington Redskins have agreed to a four-year year contract extension that will keep him off the free-agent market, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed. 106.7 The Fan radio first reported the news.

Montgomery could not be reached for comment. He is expected to sign the new deal on Monday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Centreville High and Virginia Tech product started all 16 games last season, including 14 at center. Montgomery, 29, started two at left guard after Kory Lichtensteiger was lost for the season with a Week 6 knee injury, but coaches moved him back to center in order to avoid having reserves at two positions instead of one.

Montgomery proved to be a much better center than guard. After being moved to replace Lichtensteiger, he admittedly struggled to maintain proper blocking technique in space at times. At center, he reliably stayed low and anchored in pass protection.
