P.G. police to charge third man in activist’s killing

Prince George's County police on Monday announced plans to charge a third man in connection with the killing of an Alexandria community activist.

Tyrone Lewis, 26, will be charged with first-degree murder and a series of other crimes in relation to the fatal shooting of Lenwood “Lenny” Harris, county police announced Monday.

Burial services were held Monday for Harris, who went missing in September. It was not until an anonymous tipster called police at the end of January that investigators found his body at the bottom of a remote Fort Washington well.

County police said robbery appears to be the motive in the fatal shooting.

Lewis, of Temple Hills, is currently in custody on unrelated charges in Fairfax County, police said. He will be transferred to Prince George’s custody once those cases go through the legal system.

In addition to the first-degree murder charge, Lewis also faces charges of second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and robbery, county police said.

Ivan Newman, 20, and Linwood Johnson, 49, were charged in Harris‘ death last week. Police have said Johnson knew Harris, but would not elaborate on the nature of the relationship or comment on whether the other men knew Harris personally. Police said they do not expect any additional arrests in the case.
