Prince George’s IDs overnight shooting fatalities

Prince George's police have identified the victims in two fatal shootings Monday night that occurred within close proximity.

The first victim has been identified as Christopher Donald Smith, 16. He was found dead along a wooded area in the 5300 block of 85th Avenue, in New Carrollton, at about 10:45 p.m., according to the Prince George's County Police Department.

As an ambulance was leaving the scene roughly 45 minutes later, a second body was discovered in the roadway in the 5000 block of 78th Avenue, also in New Carrollton, said police spokeswoman Julie Parker.

The second victim is Alfonso Edward Thompson, Jr., 23. He was shot while riding his bike through the area.

Police said they have no information to indicate the shootings are linked, despite their proximity.

Ms. Parker also said investigators have no information on a possible motive for the slayings.
